Cairngorm Winter Skills

After spending the weekend travelling up to Aviemore, I arrived yesterday to find the ski road/centre closed so my plan for the afternoon went out the window. Fortunately I managed to check out the Mountain Cafe all day breakfast and did some gear shopping to make me feel better.

Today I was out on the hill with Jamie and Vicky looking at winter skills. We covered footwork, a bit of navigation, snowpack and ice axe arrests. The forecast for the day was 70+ mph winds on the summits and very little rain. Well that is what we had although we didn't test the summit winds we had 50 mph+ at 750m. We saw both Blue Mountain Hare and Ptarmigan tracks and after some poking about saw a couple of hares (or quite possibly the same hare twice)
