On Wednesday night I left the New Forest and headed home for a night in a bed before leaving at 6 am to be down on Dartmoor for 8 on Thursday to work with Farmors School and the 2 groups going for Gold DofE qualifying expedition across the moor. Thursday was the shake down day and I was out with the 5 members of Team Awesome running a quick navigation refresher as it had been a while since their practice. It rained hard that day.
On Friday, Team Awesome and Team AwesomeR headed out onto the moor for the expedition and I started the usual remote supervision/assessment work of driving between car parks and running about the moor for 4 days to see how both teams were getting on.
I am pleased to report that all 11 participants completed and passed the expedition phase.
Whilst we had some pretty poor weather during the expedition including some thunder we did not suffer as badly as other areas. I was very sad to hear about the death of two walkers struck by lightening in the Brecon Beacons and hope the others who are still in hospital make a full recovery
