Wembury Paddle

Image
It was great to get out for a quick blast in the sea kayaks with Olly this morning. We launched at Wembury for a quick trip round the Mew Stone and into the Yealm estuary before heading back to Wembury. A quick dog walk and a drive round to Jennycliff saw us sat in the cafe watching the racing trimarans testing in the sound before the next leg of their journey. I then manged to get to the yacht for a couple of hours and fitted the lazy jacks

More T5 work complete

After finishing with activities week today and with the help of Olly Rees, I managed to get the majority of the van furniture finished. All I need now are a shelf and doors for the kitchen unit, fit the cooker/sink and to get the soft furnishings in.

...... and relax

Image
Over the last 6 days I have been out with my students climbing, paddling, sailing, surfing and  coasteering. 6 days done and an easy day out with Year 8 on Monday to Quay West. Time to relax.

Plymouth College Activities Week

From Friday 21st June to Monday 1st July is Plymouth College Activities Week. I am running around like a mad thing making it all happen, juggling minibuses, students, staff and hopefully teaching some of the activities myself if I get a chance. The school Outdoor Education blog is here and being updated each day.

100% Pass on Beach Lifeguard Exam

Today, 3 of my students, 2 staff and I took and passed our Beach Lifeguard Exams. This is my 8th exam now as I have been qualified for 15 years. No photos as I was being examined and didn't have the camera with me.

More Beach Lifeguard Training

Back on the beach for the students final session before their exam on Thursday. Cold in the water today

High Ropes Assessments

Image
Today I was a Cannington Activity Centre observing new staff working on the High Ropes Course. The weather turn out great considering the forecast and we managed to spend the day in the sun.

New Forest Biking 2

Image
Back out today with Vicky for some more cycling. This time with some routes out in the open rather than in the trees. Loads of horses out at the moment all over the place making riding interesting when the foals are on the tracks/roads.

New Forest Biking

Image
This afternoon I headed out into the New Forest with Vicky for some Trail Riding. I haven't been here for a while and there are loads of new numbered posts and a few altered tracks since my last visit.

Lifeboat College

Image
At the RNLI Lifeboat College this morning for a training day. View from my room this morning, fairly windy it would seem. Out on the bike later today.

WGL Day 3

Image
Back out on the moor again today for the third and final day of the WGL training. Thanks to Lousie who taught day 2 for me. A more relaxed day covering a lot less ground but looking at micro navigation and teaching strategies. Rain and mist today just to make things a bit more difficult. Sorry for the poor photos due to rain on the lens.

Walking Group Leader Training Day 1

Image
On Monday I had a very long day on Dartmoor including staying out into darkness running the first day of a WGL training course.  The weather was a far cry from the weekends sun but all 5 candidates coped with the wind and rain and we covered a lot of ground.

Salcombe to Plymouth

Image
... and so the journey continued. We got overtaken by the Lifeboat as we left Salcombe and then headed west with some goosewing downwind sailing before motoring into the Plymouth for lunch on the Barbican. Another good day but less sun, less wind and smaller waves than yesterday

Dartmouth to Salcombe

Image
This weekend I am helping a friend move her boat from Dartmouth to Plymouth. Although possible in a day we decided to split the journey at Salcombe. The sun shone, the wind blew and the waves weren't too big.

Back on the Beach

Image
Today it was back to Whitsand for some more beach lifeguard training with my usual students. The sun was shining and the water was warm. Even Daisy had a go with a rescue tube.
