Today I was at Wellington School training and assessing staff to use their newly built climbing wall before the students come back next week. This wall is a great new addition to the existing outside wall meaning they can climb year round in all weathers.

Coasteering Tech Advice

A nice day observing an instructor from Somerset Adventures lead a group Coasteering at Anstey's Cove.  Wet and High Adventures Ltd are currently not offering Coasteering as an activity so if you want to partake in this, we highly recommend Somerset Adventures who we have worked with over the last year to get their staff all trained up.

Staff Training on the YMCA Wall

Image
Today I have been down at Bridgwater YMCA climbing wall on behalf of Wet and High Adventures Ltd running a staff training session on fun games that can be used with their school groups and climbing clubs. After a few hours of training, I was pleased to sign another staff member off to run independent sessions after watching her deliver a safe and fun interactive session for some youngsters

A Week of Activities

Image
The last three days I have been working for Cannington Activity Centre on their NCS programme. A mixture of running instructor observations, logistical support and running a couple of sessions myself. We had groups out biking, paddling, High Ropes, Low Ropes, Orienteering, Night Line and trips to Kilve Beach.

Foundation Safety and Rescue

Today I was at Bridgwater YMCA working on behalf of Wet and High Adventures Ltd delivering a British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Trainin g course for some of their staff. It was so hot and the water was so warm today that I didn't even bother with a wetsuit which made a nice change.

A day of Assessments

After a week of meetings and other various indoor things, it was good to be outside again today. The morning was at Cannington Outdoor Education Centre conducting some more High Ropes training and assessments and the afternoon was at Pyramids Leisure Centre conducting a Pool Lifeguard assessment.

Tech Advice afloat

Another day of Tech Advice today for Cannington Activity Centre with some staff training on the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal. We looked at the use of the canal from the Docks to The Boat and Anchor including a number of access and egress options. We even managed a bit of improvised sailing (proof you should always carry a group shelter) on the way back

Low Ropes Sign Offs

A great day in the sun this afternoon at Cannington Activity Centre assessing a couple of staff as Low Ropes instructors. Certainly one of the nicer days to be sitting on a grass bank watching people work Both staff passed so now even more students can use the excellent facilities that are available.

High and Low Ropes Training and Assessment

Out at Cannington Activity Centre today working with staff on the newly refurbished High Ropes Course to make sure they are all up to speed with the new elements. We also had a group in on low ropes so I was able to observe some staff delivery in action. Somewhat cold at times but with plenty of coffee breaks a great day all round .

Advising at The Minack

Image
A great day down at The Minack Theatre today having a look round and discussing my future role there as their Technical Advisor for accessing the cliffs around the stage. Although very wet at the start of the day, it cleared up enough to have a poke around the crags and enjoy the views. I am looking forward to going back in the new year to work with the staff there in some hopefully drier weather.
