WEMSI - Wilderness First Responder

This week I have been on a 6 day WEMSI Wilderness First Responder course based at Glenmore Lodge in the Cairngorms. Over the 6 days we spent time inside and outside working in teams to deal with various different scenarios

First Aid and Paddling

On Thursday and Friday I was undertaking my First Aid renewal with Robin of Somerset First Aid Training a few miles from home. It is now safe for you to have an accident next to me. Today I was out paddling with good mate Olly on the Erme from Ivybridge to Ermington . No pictures as forgot my camera today. Somehow with all that rain we still manged to catch it at is lowest level!

NRASTC

This weekend I have been at Q uantock Lodge running a NRASTC  (National Rescue Award for Swim Teaches and Coaches) for Wet and High Adventures who are a RLSS Approved Training Provider. Well done to all 7 candidates who passed following an independent assessment by Andy and Andy.

First Aid done for another 3 years

After spending this weekend in Swanage on a First Aid course, I am all up to date for another 3 years before I have to sit through it all again. This is not a photo of me.

Biker Down Workshop

After working at the college yesterday I attended a Biker Down Workshop at Cullompton Fire Station. This was a free workshop run by Devon and Somerset Fire Brigade attempting to reduce fatal and serious motorcycle accidents. Run by an ex Traffic Officer, a Paramedic and fire crew the 3 hour workshop covered a number of things including what to do at an accident scene, how to be visible and basic First Aid. We also were informed about the Crash Card scheme from SW Ambulance Service. If you ride a Motorcycle this is worth doing
