Afloat in boats

Image
Today I was working for Plymouth College overseeing some 6th form students running paddling activities for Year 7. A nice relaxed day and nowhere near as cold as I expected. It was great to watch the older students take the lead from greeting the younger ones, loading boats and minibus, running sessions and packing up all the kit as the end.

Biking the Tamar Trails

Image
Been a very busy admin week with applications for new qualifications that Wet and High Adventures Ltd have now been granted permission to run. Check them out here Today I was back outside with Plymouth College Outdoor Education student for their assessed ride around the Tamar Trails. A very warm day with a group of 6 students who were able to lead themselves meant I have a very relaxed day riding round in the sun! That is me done with my short return to Plymouth College for this year but there hopefully will be a few more days next year.

Indoor Climbing Assistant

Image
Today I was down at The Life Centre in Plymouth running a Mountain Training Indoor Climbing Assistant course for Plymouth College Outdoor Education students. Nice to go back to a place that I used to work at and where I originally set up their Outdoor Education course to see that it has expanded both in delivery and the number of students on it. Always good to bump into a few ex colleagues and students and say hello.

Goblin Combe Climbing

Image
A day out in the sun at Goblin Combe with Outdoor Education students from Bridgwater and Taunton College today looking at Top Roping and belaying. Only a small group of 5 so plenty of time for each student to climb. We finished by looking at how the ropes were set and and discussing different anchors.

Out at The Cannington Activity centre today with my Level 3 Outdoor Education students from Bridgwater and Taunton College learning how to set up, use and pack away a High Ropes course. Very warm and sunny all day and quite possibly not enough sun cream used

Bronze NNAS Day 2

Image
After being postponed last week due to snow, I was out for the second and final day of a Bronze NNAS course for my Outdoor Education students from Bridgwater and Taunton College . A blue sky day with a chilly breeze saw us cover around 15km from Cannington out to the coast at Steart and back. 3 out of 3 passed

Indoor Climbing

Inside today at TCA Bristol with Bridgwater and Taunton College students, one of whom was being assessed in leading a session which she did very well. A bit of spare time afterwards allows me to do a little personal coaching with some of them as well as climbing a few problems myself.

NNAS Bronze Day 1

Image
Today was another Quantock Day delivering the first day of a NNAS Bronze award for Bridgwater and Taunton College students on behalf of Wet and High Adventures Ltd . After a bit of contour work on college grounds, we were  out and about looking at basic navigation techniques. A fair bit colder than the last few days but still dry and therefore a good day out

Biking on The Quantock Hills

Image
Out with my first year Level 3 Outdoor Education students from Bridgwater and Taunton College today up on The Quantock Hills looking at Mountain Bike skills as we have moved from Water Based to Land Based activities. Less muddy than my last trip up there but still a few deep puddles lying about to play in.

Out and About on The Quantock Hills

Image
Out doing some Navigation and leadership assessments with Level3 Outdoor Educations students on The Quantock Hills. Cold, a little snowy and wet underfoot at times, we still managed 16km and didn't get lost.
