Rock Skills - Intermediate

A great couple of days with Long Term client Jack completing a Rock Skills Intermediate course at Hound Tor and Chudleigh Lots covered over the 2 days including 4 routes at each venue as well as learning to set up anchors, belaying and general rock climbing stuff. Thanks to Jamie for coming out on day two to help so that I could fall off a few climbs so that Jack could learn to hold a fall and lower.

Rock Skills - Learn to Lead Trad

Image
Excellent couple of days on Dartmoor (Dewerstone and Leigh Tor) running a Rock Skills Learn to Lead Trad course for Hannah and Marcus We got away with only a little drizzle and mainly nice weather. Loads of skills covered over the 2 days and we even managed to multipitch a 15m Mod at Leigh Tor. Both managed to lead a couple of climbs each on day 2. These course are excellent for turning indoor climbers into outdoor climbers and I am keen to run a few more once the summer kicks in properly. Working for Wet and High Training which is part of Wet and High Adventures Ltd.

Rock Skills (Intro) with The Abbey School

This weekend I have been working for Wet and High Adventures Ltd running a Rock Skills - Introduction for 7 students from The Abbey School . Normally a one day course but we split it over the Saturday afternoon/evening and the Sunday morning to get the most form the weather. With some climbing at Haytor, bouldering at Bonehill and Abseiling at Chudleigh, the girls got a lot of variety in a short amount of time and have had the opportunity to learn loads. We even got back to the vehicles about 20min before the rain came down really hard

Intermediate Rock Skills Day 2

Image
Today for the second and final day of the Mountain Training Intermediate Rock Skills course for Wet and High Adventures Ltd we were at Chudleigh South looking at how to set up Top Ropes and of course, got lots of climbing done as well. 5 different routes between the showers and a couple of abseils. This is the first Rock Skills course we have run and I really like the syllabus. Although each course will be different depending on the candidates initial skill set we certainly got a lot done over the 2 days.

Intermediate Rock Skills Day 1

Image
On the first day of a Mountain Training Rock Skills (Intermediate) course for Wet and High Adventures Ltd with two teenage brothers, we headed to the Dewerstone to look at belaying skills and becoming a competent second. This is the very reason that Wet and High got an AALA licence so we can do some exciting stuff with keen youngsters. The boys top roped Agags Slab before seconding me on Pinnacle Buttress and Muck Gully.  8 pitches climbed each during the day and well as learning how to take gear out, belay and coiling ropes. Looking forward to a second day tomorrow to look at how to set up climbs and other useful skills.
