This weekend I have been on a very wet Dartmoor running a Gold NNAS Training course for two keen candidates who despite the weather and wet pants, were able to concentrate long enough to get through the syllabus. This is the top level personal navigation award and they will now need to go away to consolidate before presenting themselves for a one day assessment. Lets hop it is a drier day for them when they come back.

For the last 3 days I have been back out with  Bridgwater and Taunton College  Public Services students on Exmoor for an expedition from Porlock Weir to Tarr Steps. This is the second one of these, the other being last week and fortunately it was a much drier experience until this morning when it decided to rain quite hard.

Back out on Exmoor today for the third and final day of the Hill and Moorland Leader Training I am directing for Wet and High Adventures . It was a slightly drier day (but not by much) and the candidates got to try being leaders whilst navigating and informing us about all the flora and fauna around us. We were lucky enough to see some Red Dear.

Out on Dartmoor today for the second day of the Hill and Moorland Leader Training I am directing for Wet and High Adventures . A mixed day with sunny spells and heavy showers gave us good navigation challenges and we stayed out until after dark for a bit of additional training.

OK. So I win the award for the 2 worst pictures ever today. One is a field and the other is some Frog Spawn. I was in two minds whether to post them but thought I would share my incompetence with you all! I will do better tomorrow I promise Today I was directing the first day of a Hill and Moorland Leader Training course on Exmoor for Wet and High Adventures . After a few hours of theory waiting for the rain to stop, we headed out for some navigation practice.

This week I have been working for The Exploration Society in the Peak District supervising a Silver DofE group. It has been cold and night but mainly dry during the day. Off to North Wales now for a week of work.

This weekend I have been out with Haygrove School assisting with a Bronze DofE practice on Exmoor. Great weather for walking but a bit chilly when hanging about waiting for groups. All 10 groups were in on time (probably the first time ever that has happened) and even the packing up and hanging tents went smoothly.

A drier day on the moor today and out and about looking at basic navigation skills of compass and pacing, orientating map, timing and route planning. No rain but quite chilly at times especially after two days of getting wet.
