Another sunny day on the Quantocks

Image
Back out on the Quantock Hills today with the other half of the Bridgwater College FdSc Students. We had some great cycling in the sun mixing wide trails with single track. No mechanical issues which was nice and happy students which is even nicer.

Goblin Climbing

Image
Today I was back out in the sun with the same FdSc students as yesterday and we headed to the Car Park crag at Goblin Combe. It was a progressive day with the first round of climbing supervised directly but by the afternoon they were managing to tie them self in, climb a route, belay and lower all by themselves using a buddy check system. Next week we look at how to set up climbs so they become even more self reliant. Apologies for whatever has blured the lens today

Quantock Hills Sunny Biking

The summer has definitely arrived (not sure how long for though). Today I took 8 FdSc Public Services students out for their first session of Mountain Biking. We cycled a circuit from Crowcombe Park Gate via Triscombe, Ramscombe and back up to Crowcombe looking at skills long the way. We had a few mechanicals and punctures along the way that slowed us down a bit but we still managed to complete a 14km route including uphill, single track descents and wide forestry tracks.

High Ropes Assessments

Today I have been at Cannington Activity Centre assessing some of the staff in using the High Ropes Course. With both the morning and afternoon group we experienced some wind which made Jacobs Ladder and All Aboard much more challenging.

Beach Lifeguard Assessment 100% Pass

Well done to all 6 candidates who cruised the NBLQ assessment today at Brean. Thanks to Tim for assessing. Ed the dog needs some more training as he tends to lick casualties rather than perform CPR.

Beach Lifeguard Day 4

Image
Another stunning day. The candidates had the usual morning pool swim before heading to the beach to play with different scenarios and rescues. The weather was so nice the beach session went on a bit longer than normal. Back in the classroom we covered all the final parts and had some CPR practice before tomorrows exam. Good luck everybody!!

Beach Lifeguard Training Day 3

Image
Another stunning day on the beach, it is almost as if I booked the weather for us. Pool session then into the sea for some fitness and skills training. An afternoon of First Aid and a visit to another beach to look at the effects of piers and jetties on water movement finished off the day
