Wet and High

Today was a quick paddle and a climb for 3 potential students for next years Level 3  Outdoor Education Adventure and Leadership course at Bridgwater and Taunton College. There are still some spaces so if you are a school leaver or completed a Level 2 and are interested in applying then please get in touch with the college via the link.

High and Low Ropes Assessments

Image
Back out at Cannington Activity Centre today for some competency assessments on both new and long term instructors. A good performance by all and was good to see some new ideas being used but staying within all the usual safety parameters.

High and Low Ropes Training

Today I have been at Cannington Activity Centre delivering staff training on the use of High and Low ropes elements. A good team to work with and lots covered. Back tomorrow for some more training and assessments.

What a great evening

Image
After a morning of admin, I dropped into Bridgwater and Taunton College who were hosting a slow riding skills day organised by Somerset Advanced Motorcyclists . This evening I decided to spin up over The Quantock Hills on my way to check out somewhere near Watchet. I got distracted and ended up taking some photos of the bike with some great cloud formations. I am getting some miles on the bike now so will to do a review soon.

Bronze DofE Assessment

Image
After a fairly mundane week of meetings and general admin stuff (apart from a blast over Exmoor on the motorbike on Thursday) it was good to be back in my outside office for the last 2 days. I was assessing 4 teams from Bristol Cathedral Choir School on their Bronze DofE expedition around The Quantock Hills. A little misty on the hills today just added to their challenge. Well done to all 4 teams who I was assessing plus those being assessed by another.

HML Training Day 3

Image
Back out on north Dartmoor with the Hill and Moorland Leader training course I am directing for Wet and High Adventures (they were with Jay yesterday). Hot, hot, hot and trying to navigating between patches of shade today as well as some teaching navigation strategies and incident management scenarios

SUP and sup

Image
Super hot day so I dumped the office admin and took the Stand Up Paddleboard ( SUP ) out for a quick blast along the canal followed by a coffee ( sup ). As Hannah and Heidi rocked up, it turned into some impromptu coaching (or goading them into do handstands).
