D of E Assessment Day 3 / Heading Up North

 Camping at John O Groats

This morning I left the group in Nick's capable hands and headed to Bristol to catch a flight to Inverness where I met up with Graeme and Steve and headed a further two hours north to John O Groats. Here we pitched tents for the night looking North to Orkney. Tomorrow morning we will be on the first ferry over.
It is 11:30pm and not dark yet!

Today's boating session was delayed by a few hours until the temperature rose above zero then it was a case of powering through the now thin layer of ice to have a trip down the canal. The swans had managed to keep a 3m area of canal open by swimming about all night but seem very happy that we open up a lot more of the canal for them. A mix of Tandem and Solo skills demonstrated today from the Outdoor Students.

Back on the Beach

Today it was back to Whitsand for some more beach lifeguard training with my usual students. The sun was shining and the water was warm. Even Daisy had a go with a rescue tube.
