Roasting in Romania

So Romania you delivered some awesome roads or at least, some awesome scenery with bits of tarmac. You could do with filling in a few holes here and there.

A looooooong day in the saddle today, about 10 hrs in total. A relatively easy border crossing started the day before the heat cranked up and the roads started to have corners.

Bugger, it is a Sunday and the banks are closed so can't change any money. Fortunately found a hole in the wall that my card would work it to get some Romainian Leu. 100? That should do it, so straight into a patisserie to buy a croissant for 2 leu with a 100 note. They didn't seem too impressed.

Anyway, one of the roads on my list the 67C or "Transalpina" was pretty amazing. Stunning views all along it with wooded valleys (with some shade) at the northern end of the road before climbing up and over the pass to a nice cool 17 degrees before dropping back down to 30 something. Finally found a campsite after Garmin GPS let me down twice (didn't even look like there had ever been one there let alone recently closed).

I will summarise Romanian driving rules below.

Speed limits mean nothing. 90% ignore them by some margin and 10% go about half the speed limit before randomly stopping (mainly Dacias)

No overtaking signs mean nothing over than get really close before the overtake.

Stopping in the middle of the road or on blind bends is OK. No indicator needed even in national speed limit. All the bikes in the picture above are stopped on the road not a parking area.
